Gearing up to prevent untoward incidents during Christmas and New Year celebrations,the police on Thursday announced the measures that would be taken during the festive season.
Makarand Ranade,deputy commissioner of police (special branch) said,On the backdrop of the intelligence reports about threats to various cities in India,we are taking no chances for security measures to avoid any uncalled for incidences and accidents in the city.
He added,There will checks,nakabandis at all the important spots in the city. We will also carry out random checks at various places in and around the city.
A force comprising three additional commissioners of police,10 deputy commissioners of police,400 officers and 6,000 police personnel has been allocated. In addiction,20 striking forces,six quick response teams (QRTs),six bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) vans will also be deployed,he said,adding,We will be keeping a close watch on the movements of people with criminal records. Movements of all banned organisations and groups will also be monitored.
To avoid accidents as a result of people driving after consuming alcohol,checks have already been started with breath analysers.
The cops are also preparing to avoid incidences of eave-teasing during nighttime.
We have made provisions for deployment of personnel from special branch and crime branch at places with presence of large number women and girls.
Ranade added,O n December 24,special teams will be deployed at the churches where prayers are organised.
Special branch and staff from respective police stations will regularly check the security scene of the malls and important hotels.
