M S University’s (MSU) Faculty of Textile Engineering has been declared as an anchor institute by the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED), Gujarat. The state government has released Rs 1.35 crore to start specific applied courses with an aim to have competent manpower at all levels in the industry.
Aadhar Mandot, the newly appointed joint secretary of the anchor institute at MSU, said: “MSU has been in constant touch with the state government since November 2007. There have been several meetings for the training requirement of an anchor institute. The state government can release a maximum of Rs 10 crore for the same.”
He added: “We are yet to decide on the strength of the class and enrolment procedure. This will be decided in the Steering committee soon. The classes are likely to begin after three months.”
The main role of an anchor institute is to evolve new training programmes for industries in the state and upgradation of courses based on industry feedback.
Mandot added, “The institute will focus on the weaker sections of the society for their self employment.”
