Failing to comply with DTO order,10 school buses confiscated

The DTO said,“I held a meeting with school bus operators and told them to pay road tax and complete their necessary documents. As bus operators have their own set of problems,so I gave them a relaxation of paying road tax in two instalments for the buses having capacity more than 12 seats. While those with 12 seats,will have to pay the road tax about Rs 9,000 in one instalment.”

He further said many school buses being running in a dilapidated condition. About this,the DTO said,“I asked the school bus operators to get a verification certificate from the motor vehicle inspector for the buses which are 15 years old. After reviewing the condition of school buses,the MVI will give them one or two years’ extension. While others,which are not fit for driving,will have to go off roads.”

The DTO said the campaign against school buses will continue. He said,“We will also cover the schools which fall on the link roads in the district and where schoolchildren go in school buses. I am personally visiting city schools and giving reminders to the school authorities for ensuring the completion of documents of school buses. Many schools say that they do not provide transport facility to children and children come to schools on their own. I have clarified to such schools that although they do not own the transport facility,yet it is their responsibility to ensure the safety of their students. I have also asked the school authorities to make an appeal to parents not to send their children to school in rickety vehicles. I have decided to visit two three school daily.”
