Failing to get through PMT,girl hangs self

Failure to get through the All-India Pre-Medical Test drove a 19-year-old girl to suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Dwarka area of Southwest Delhi on Wednesday.

Failure to get through the All-India Pre-Medical Test (PMT) drove a 19-year-old girl to suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Dwarka area of Southwest Delhi on Wednesday.

Police officers said the deceased,Ankita, had received the result of her PMT entrance test on April 15. She reportedly did not get through the entrance exam, due to which she was depressed. “Ankita had taken the PMT held on April 12,but did not perform well. She saw her results on the Internet on Wednesday night. In spite of her family offering her support, she refused to speak to them, and after dinner, locked herself in her room. Her father knocked on her door at 11.30 pm,but got no answer. He then looked through a window and saw her hanging from the ceiling fan,” a senior police officer said.

The police recovered a suicide note,in which the girl had written that she was depressed over her PMT results and that nobody should be held guilty for her step. Ankita resided in Patel Nagar of Dwarka area with her parents and a younger brother. She had completed Class XII last year.

“Her father is a doctor and runs a clinic at his home,” a police officer said. A postmortem was conducted.
