The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police is close to filing its first chargesheet in the fake pilot scam, eight months after the scam was reported.

The Delhi Police has so far arrested 12 pilots and three officials of the airline regulator,Directorate General of Civil Aviation DGCA,for allegedly fudging marksheets to procure commercial licences and Airline Transport Pilot Licence ATPL. The DGCA officials were arrested for allegedly arranging the marksheets in lieu of money. The chargesheet will be filed later this week.

This will be the first time ever that DGCA officials would be chargesheeted for the crime. Till the time a government official is chargesheeted he can continue in office. Though the Crime Branch had arrested the accused, all of them are presently out on bail.

We will be filing the chargesheets shortly, said Ashok Chand,Deputy Commissioner of Police crime.

An aspirant pilot has to clear three subjects Aviation Meteorology,Radio Aids and Instruments and Air Navigation to get ATPL. However, the accused pilots failed in one or the other paper, the police said.

The police said they will produce the copies of the fake marksheets and the log books where they have fudged the flying hours as evidence against the accused.

The scam came out in the open in February this year after IndiGo pilot Captain Parminder Kaur Gulati made a hard landing at the Goa Airport prompting the authorities to start an internal probe. It was found that Gulati had submitted a fake marksheet to procure the licence.
