FALL INTO THIS SEASON’S LOOKS

  • RUFFLES AND LACE
Prada revitalised lace’s musty image by turning out surprisingly modern full-lace ensembles in brown, nude, orange— and the requisite black. Alexander McQueen and Derek Lam followed suit, and delicate lace became a bona fide trend. The feminine, peasant-inspired blouse, with ruffles, lace, billowing sleeves, pin-tucks and more, is big this season.

    CINCHED AT THE WAIST
Remember how great Sara Jessica Parker looked in her belted vest in Sex and the City: The Movie? Nothing can redefine the waist better than a belt. Wide or thin, a belt can be worn over a satiny blouse, body-hugging dress, or a lightweight coat worn over a turtleneck and paired with skinny jeans or a simple pencil skirt.

    THE MODERN SILHOUETTE
Fall sees a return to wide-legged trousers paired with hip-length jackets, tunics and sweaters for a modern, clean aesthetic look.

    THE NEW BOOTIE
Over the summer, it was all about the gladiator shoe. Now designers have taken scissors to the bootie and turned out a refreshing trend for fall. Black patent leather booties with peep toe and laces look amazing when paired with coloured tights.

    SHADES OF AUTUMN
This season’s colour du jour is berry and its many shades, from deep purple to bright magenta. But there are plenty of other saturated shades from the palette to choose from, including mustard. When combined with gray or black, it pops. Shoes and handbags, too, are showing up in refreshing blue-toned amethyst and fuchsia. You could also try a more measured approach with a cool, mood-brightening nail polish.

    WINTER FLORALS
Spring’s cheery florals are being reimagined as dreamy, artsy patterns in dark green, brown and purple.

    LEATHER JACKET
Leather popped up on red carpets, as celebrities paired tough biker jackets with flowy dresses, and runways, as designers including Marc Jacobs and Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci put the leather spin on pieces from minidresses to shorts. Hands down, the most wearable incarnation of the leather trend is the jacket.
