Pak mob sets church ablaze, pastor's son injured in attack

ISLAMABAD: A mob of hundreds of Muslims burnt an 82-year-old church and a school in northwest Pakistan during a protest against an anti-Islam film, sparking concerns among the minority Christian community. The mob attacked St Paul's Lutheran Church in Mardan city, 48 km from Peshawar, on Sunday. Zeeshan Chand, the 17-year-old son of a pastor, was beaten by the mob and was hospitalised. Meanwhile, Lahore police said they had registered cases against over 6,000 people on charges including terrorism in relation to protests against the film.

Egypt jihad group says Israel border attack due to film

ISMAILIA: An Islamist militant group based in Egypt's Sinai has claimed responsibility for a cross-border attack that killed an Israeli soldier. Three gunmen were also killed in Friday's attack, which the group Ansar Bayt al-Maqdes said was in response to an anti-Islam film that has sparked worldwide protests and violence.

Nationwide strike in bangladesh

Dhaka: A coalition of 12 Islamist groups enforced a nationwide shutdown to protest an anti-Islam video amid tight security on Sunday, a day after protesters clashed with police leaving over 50 people injured in the capital. Police and witnesses said over 40 protesters were detained in Dhaka and over a dozen were arrested in southeastern port city of Chittagong and southwestern Bhola as they tried to obstruct vehicle movements. Protests also continued in Nigeria, Iran, and Turkey on Sunday. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka said it would not allow the film to be aired.
