  • Authorities are investigating the death of a first-year MCA student at the National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT), whose family members have alleged that he committed suicide due to ragging by seniors.

The body of Satyendra Kumar was found on Tuesday, hanging from the ceiling fan in his hostel room on the NIIT campus near Jamshedpur, in Saraikela-Kharsawan district. A case of unnatural death has been registered, said police officials. District Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Sharma said that the post-mortem was conducted on Wednesday. “We have also got the entire process videographed,” Sharma told The Indian Express.

“He had suffered a nervous breakdown after he was tortured by seniors. Unable to bear the trauma, he had called me many times,” Kumar’s mother, Bindu Devi, said.
