Hundreds of irate farmers in Talala taluka staged an agitation and gheraoed the police station to protest against the repeated incidents of attacks by robbers. They demanded strict action against the gang responsible for the same.
Sources said more than half a dozen incidents of attacks have been registered in the taluka in Junagadh district in the last one month. The gang generally targets farmers working in agricultural fields in the isolated areas and rob them of their belongings, before fleeing from the scene.
According to Talala police, the gang reportedly attacked a farmer in Borvav village on Wednesday, and after seriously injuring him, robbed him of his belongings. The victim, Manoj Patel (22), has registered a complaint against three unidentified persons under sections 394 (loot), 506 (2) (threaten with life), 447 and 325 of the Indian Penal Code with the Talala police. According to the complainant, the robbers attacked Patel when he was busy working in his field. The culprits robbed Rs 3,000 in, a cellphone from him and fled from the spot.
The farmers have demanded adequate security to be provided to the farmers in the region.
