With bleached hair, webbed belts and military clothes appealing to the rebellious youngster, punk fashion serves as an enticing outlet for their suppressed angst and need for expression

In the frequently changing fashion statements and style upgradations that the fashion world is witness to, with old style mantras giving way to new trends, punk fashion is no exception. Discovered in the late 1970s, intended to appear as confrontational, shocking and rebellious as possible, punk culture has trotted ahead in the 21st century. The look has evolved and more elements have been added to it, making it a true style statement.

Youngsters, especially in the age group of 16 to 23, who are fascinated with every new trend, find punk fashion very out-of-the-box and enticing.

Poornima, a second-year mass media student says, "I follow punk fashion as it is very comfortable and stylish at the same time. It makes me feel very much a youngster."

Punks are famous for colouring their hair in colours such as purple, green, blue and orange. They also sport leather jackets with political, ironic or funky remarks on them. Military uniform items like combat boots, leopard print patterns and spray painted t-shirts also fall under the same category. Typical pants worn by punk followers consist of bleached jeans, bondage pants, ripped jeans, cargo pants, dickies pants.
