  • Days after a top Muslim body passed a resolution asking the community members not to recite 'Vande Mataram', a prominent Islamic organisation which had issued 'fatwa' against the national song in 2006, on Monday said the edict cannot be withdrawn.

The fatwa department of Darul Uloom had issued an edict in 2006, describing recitation of 'Vande Mataram' as anti-Islamic.

Darul Uloom's Vice Chancellor Maulana Abdul Khalik Madrasi, however, said: "Fatwa is not an order but a guiding principle. People may abide it or ignore it".

"We issue fatwas only when someone approaches us to seek guidance," he said, adding that the seminary cannot withdraw the edict which was issued three years ago.

The cleric, however, made it clear that his organization has no objection to non-Muslims singing the song. On November 3, Jamiat-Ulema-e-Hind in its 30th general session in Deoband had passed a resolution asking Muslims not to recite Vande Mataram on the grounds that some verses of the national song are against the tenets of Islam.

You guys need to cool downBy: Kareem | 21-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward The reason muslims cannot sing vandemataram is because it contains phrases which go against Islam's core tenet - ie. 'There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah'. Muslims are not forcing Hindus or Christians to leave their religions, then why are the commentators here asking Muslims to abandon their religion? Muslims, Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists etc. have been living in India for centuries, thats not going to change. So let us try to forgive and forget and live amicably going forward. We don't have to agree with each other's beliefs but we can respect one another by allowing freedom to believe and practice one's religions.
Fatwa against VM by Darul Ulum.By: Pritam Surti | 16-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Mr. Sankaran, I am a Hindu by choice and not by chance. I worship Bhagwan without any idol. Can I ask you one question? Why do you need an idol to reach out to Bhagwan? Do Hindus like you are week in concentration? You need an idol or idols to concentrate your devotion? Are you so weak? Why have Hindus started worshipping Avtaars instead of real God? Pritam Surti, Toronto, Canada.
FATWA AGAINST VANDE MATARAM.By: skulkarni | 11-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward For Hindus "JANANI JANMABHUMISTU SWARGADAPI GARIYASE" MEANING MOTHER AND MOTHERLAND ARE MORE SACRED THAN GOING TO GOD OR HEAVAN.HOW TRUE!THE HINDUS NEVER WENT OUT AND CAPTURED OTHER'S LAND.HINDUS HAVE LOST A LOT OF LAND OR ANYTHING.THAT IS WHY THE MOTHERLAND IS SO SACRED. THE PEOPLE HAVE NO REPECT FOR THE LAND BECAUSE IT WAS STOLLEN FROM US.ANYTHING FREE HAS NO VALUE.PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOMADIC LIFE STYLE,MOVING FROM LAND TO LAND,OBVIOUSLY CANNOT HAVE LOYALTY TO THE MOTHER LAND,BECAUSE FOR THEM IT IS JUST A LAND FOR PLUNDERING.HISTORY IS FULL OF MURDERS OF SONS ,FATHERS,BROTHERS AND MOTHERS.WHY? FOR LAND,WEALTH AND POWER. ASK PALESTINIANS OR WHOSOEVER IS DISPLACED FROM THEIR MOTHER LAND AND THE PAIN.WHY THEY WANT MOTHER LAND.
Fatwa against 'Vande Mataram' cannot be withdrawn: Darul UloomBy: Ratan Gupta | 11-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward If Hindus take some time to read their religious scriptures like Vedanta and other books, they will reject Vandemataram as well. Hindu scriptures clearly preaches us to worship one God. We Hindus later on invented our idols. Muslims did not. I went to a church, I saw the idol of Jesus. When I went a Mosque, I did not find any idol. Vandemataram is idol worhipping. Neither it is a national song nor it has to do with true Hinduism of worshipping one God. We Hindus are ignorant and undeducated on the subject. Idol worshipping is not allowed in our religion. I have immense respect for Muslims that they do not worship idols in the Mosques. We need to improve our knowledge of other religions. Reciting or not reciting Vandemataram does not have any national implications at all. Stop nonsense. It has become fashion to attack Muslims on any subject.
Fatwa against 'Vande Mataram' cannot be withdrawn: Darul UloomBy: N.V.SANKARAN | 14-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Mr. Ratan Gupta, You appear to have only very superficial knowledge about Hinduism and the contents of Hindu scriptures. No Hindu considers Idols as Gods. They only use the idols as media to reach out to God. Otherwise, Hindus would start worshiping even those statues which are kept in the shops for sale. A very simple analogy of worshiping one God in different forms is similar to the manner in which you experience electricity in the form of light, heat, sound or just vibration. Just like Hindus use idols as media to pray to God, the Muslims also do need some symbols and that is why they go to mosques and perform Huj in Mecca. The purpose is the same-use some kind of media to reach out to God who is omnipresent, which means that He is present in everything-living, non-living and even nothingness. Please try to understand Hinduism first before making such comments. It would be better if you visited the official web-site of Indian Institute of Scientific Heritage and read some of the literature they publish.
