Officials clarified that the problem was with a particular batch
The state Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recalled two drugs — X-Pod DR syrup and Chloramphenicol eye ointment — which it claims do not meet standards. The Drug Control Laboratory allegedly found that the two drugs were not adhering to national guidelines for pharmaceuticals. FDA has banned their sale.
"During routine checks, we found that these drugs were not up to standard. We have notified druggists and chemists to return the stock. Large-scale manufacturers have also been similarly notified," said K B Shende, Joint Commissioner (Drugs) , FDA.
Officials, however, clarified that the problem was with a particular batch, following which action was taken. In the syrup, the content of an ingredient was found to be more than what was mentioned on the label. The ointment was not as sterile as per the guidelines, said officials.
"A state-wide notification was issued to stop the sale and recall and return the stock to the manufacturer. We have brought it to the notice of other states as well," said D R Gahane, assistant commissioner (drugs), FDA.
