A man who went to Dubai on fake visas eight times was arrested after an employee of his firm in Dubai informed immigration authorities about his offences. Investigators later learnt that the accused had travelled on three forged passports over the past 11 years, without being caught by immigration authorities.

Airport sources said the accused, Ahmad Shabad, was arrested last week and charged with cheating and forgery and sections of the Passport Act. Investigators said they are probing an immigration racket.

Sources said Shabad, a native of Patna, first went to Dubai in 2002 on an employment visa using a passport issued in his name.

Sources said, when Shabad first went to Dubai, his employer wasn't doing well. The profits were low and the employer needed someone to help restore profits.

Shabad took up the task, following which the profits went up.

However, he did not inform his employer that his work visa was about to expire. Shabad returned to Patna, where he forged a passport for himself using his cousin's name. This way, he kept returning to Dubai and was never caught by immigration authorities.

He made a third passport in 2011, again in his cousin's name, and returned to Dubai. Since his company was doing well, Shabad took over as its head. A colleague, who was jealous of his success, found out that Shabad had been travelling on a fake passport and forged visas.

He informed immigration authorities and Dubai police, following which Shabad was imprisoned there for 16 months and deported to India, where he was arrested last week. A case of forgery and cheating has been registered under Sections 419, 420, 468 and 471 of the IPC and Section 12 of the Passport Act.
