The first week of February will see another spell of rainfall and hailstorm in the city, the Met department said on Tuesday. Cold winds from the northwest will collide with the moist and warm air coming from the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea, bringing thunderstorm and rain on February 4 and 5.

The weatherman said heavy hailstorm is expected on the night of February 5. This will lead to a sharp dip in the mercury, with temperatures expected to drop below 3 degree Celsius on February 7, the Met department said.

Cold winds from the higher latitudes along with fresh western disturbance will also lead to fog cover over the city. On January 18, the city received 35.5 mm rainfall in 36 hours, renewing the cold spell. An IMD official said: "This storm will be something of a repeat."

The western disturbance will affect the entire northwest region of the country, bringing heavy snowfall to Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand between February 3 and February 6. Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh will come under the cold spell between February 4 and February 6.
