The Syndicate meeting held at Panjab University on Sunday took a number of key decisions. In an important development, the members decided that students from the University Institute of Applied Management Sciences (UIAMS) under the SC/ST category will have to pay fees in accordance with the amount paid by students in the general category. These students, therefore, will have to pay Rs 2 lakh per year as compared to the earlier amount of Rs 1.25 lakh. The Syndicate reasoned that it is a self-financed course and the department does not receive any grant from the government. It also decided to constitute a committee for reviewing the proposed hike in the price of admission forms and prospectus. Taking note of the fees proposed for allowing students to see the answersheets of the entrance exams, the members agreed that the current amount of Rs 10,000 was a shade too high. The Syndicate is,however, yet to decide on the appropriate fee to be charged for the same. The members also decided that the answer keys for the entrance exams would be uploaded on the Internet for a period of 48 hours following the test. In what comes as good news for students of the Department of Laws, they will be given a second chance to improve their results. The candidate will be allowed to appear in any additional subject/paper prescribed by the course other than what the candidate has already studied.
