Cooperative department prepares jingles, ad films to encourage societies

The cooperative department has complained of poor response to its intensified drive to get societies to register the conveyance deed, a legal document to effect a transfer of property and show the legal right to possess it. It claims that only 2,892 societies have shown interest till now. To cover the rest of the 10,629 societies, the department now plans to arrange personal visits by officials and has even prepared advertisement jingles and films to draw their attention.

"We are seeing very poor response from societies even after continuously urging them to come forward and register the conveyance deed. The department has appointed people to go and personally visit these societies and make them fill up forms. We have also readied short films encouraging people to come forward for the drive," said District Deputy Registrar Kiran Sonawane.

As far as deemed conveyance deeds are concerned, 263 cases had come to the department. While orders have been issued in case of 156, the process is on for the rest. Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan had mooted the drive in December 2012 to clear this backlog.

While the department did reach out to local corporators and MLAs regarding the drive, they now have representatives being sent out to each society with the forms to get hands-on details on the status of conveyance deeds. "This will help us boost our drive and once we have the details we can initiate them into doing the conveyance," added Sonawane.

In societies where builders are not agreeing, he said, deemed conveyance cases are coming up and the department would like to reach out and help these societies. With builders eying extra floor space index (FSI), transfer of development rights and redevelopment of old buildings, delay in the processing of conveyance deeds is a usual trend.
