Acting on a complaint by Shruti Sharma, an aspiring actress, the Juhu police arrested a 40-year-old man on Tuesday evening for allegedly promising her roles in films in return for sexual favours.
Senior Police Inspector Deepak Katkade of the Juhu police station said, “The complainant, Shruti Sharma, is an aspiring actress from Kandivali. She had got in touch with one Amit Kumar Srivastava from Goregaon a week ago. Shrivastava had apparently told her that he had connections in the film industry and offered to help her get roles in movies. After having a telephonic conversation with Sharma many times, Amit allegedly promised to help her with her career in return for sexual favours. Srivastava asked her to meet him somewhere in the Juhu area for discussing it further. She immediately informed it to some of her friends and colleagues and they decided to lay a trap to catch him at Juhu.”
Accordingly, on Tuesday evening, Amit came to meet her near a bank in Juhu where he was accosted by Sharma and her colleagues who later dragged him to the Juhu police station. They, then, filed a complaint on charges of cheating and outraging the modesty of a woman. “He was produced before the magistrate and was remanded to police custody till November 14. We also found photographs of a few models in his possession and want to inquire if he had done this sort of thing before,” said a police officer on condition of anonymity.
Sharma was unavailable for comment.
