Films will be rated by the censor board according to new categories like '12+' and '15+' instead of the current 'UA' category as per a proposed amendment in the Cinematograph Act, the government today said.

"In the proposed amendment to the Cinematograph Act, introduction of new categories namely 12+ and 15+ has been envisaged in place of existing UA category," Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting S Jagathrakshakan said replying to a question in the Lok Sabha.

In response to another question related to I&B Ministry, MoS C M Jatua said the government had cancelled the licence of five private channels which could not operationalise within the prescribed period.

"Out of the 37 non operational channels, the government has cancelled the permission of 5 private satellite channels which could not operationalise within the prescribed period," Jatua said.

"Three channels have requested to extend their operationalisation time against notice for cancellation. 27 TV channels have sought extension of time for operationalisation of their channels," Jatua said giving more details.

He further added that permission of 2 channels has been withdrawn on request of the company.
