An eight-day strike by lawyers in Rae Bareli district ended with the registration of an FIR against Samajwadi Party MLA Devendra Pratap Singh today. President of Central Bar Association O P Yadav, the complainant in the case, confirmed that the strike has been called off and work would resume in court from Thursday.
The lawyers were protesting against Devendra, who represents Sareni constituency in Rae Bareli district, because his supporters had allegedly assaulted Yadav in the presence of the MLA. The incident occurred on September 4 when a fact-finding team sent by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav was in Rae Bareli to probe the alleged killing of two persons. The lawyers demanded that a case be registered against the MLA and his supporters. Later, they resorted to a strike, paralysing work at the district court of Rae Bareli.
