  • Vasundhara Raje finally quit as Leader of the Opposition in Rajasthan after a meeting with L K Advani today, packing her letter of resignation with criticism of a range of alleged systemic problems in the BJP.

The resignation marked the end of a nearly-three month stalemate that followed after Raje steadfastly refused to submit to a decision by her party’s Core Group — endorsed subsequently by its Parliamentary Board — to effect a change of leadership in Rajasthan following defeats in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

In her letter, Raje is learnt to have stressed that “internal democracy is fundamental to any political party”, and that she was “hurt when she learnt about the demand for her resignation through the media”. She added that she “would have quit immediately had she been informed about this in person”.

“Women leaders,” she said, “should be encouraged in the party”, and lamented that “there were leaders who had worked against the party’s interests when she was leading the party campaign in the state”.

Raje has made the point that “the principle of accountability has not been applied in other cases of election debacle”, and asked the party to do “an honest introspection” following the losses in Maharashtra, Haryana and Arunchal Pradesh, instead of the “all-too-familiar tactic of looking for scapegoats”.

Raje has, however, asserted that she was resigning “unconditionally”, and that she remained “a loyal and committed worker of the party”.

A member of the BJP Parliamentary Board said the former chief minister has raised a “host of issues afflicting the party”, and invoked “her mother, the late Vijayaraje Scindia, and her seminal contribution towards building the party”.

    ... contd.

BJP's WoesBy: Varinder | 24-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward BJP is a party whih is busy cutting her own legs. Honest, genuine and selfless leaders are being sidelined and those who would have been disciplined are at the helms of affairs. If this trend is not stopped immediately, party will lose its support base gradually and impact has aleardy been felt. It is better to mend the fences before it is too late.
Furthur downfall of BJP in RajasthanBy: Divia | 24-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward It is an era of downfall of BJP in Rajasthan. The party failure is not because of one person or a leader but the defeat in BJP defines the failure of cenrtal policy of BJP and its overall image instead of the state in individual. It is just a result of the dog fight in the core BJP policies and missing of the real propaganda to address the election.Instead of analysing the core problems of the country and announcing plans to combat these problems BJP at center was busy criticising the efforts made by congress to counter the situation. BJP even went to the extent of criticising the right policies without any proper grounds to justify their stand for e.g. the nuclear energy agenda.Instead of asking vasundra raje and other for their resignation BJP should sit together and formulate a proper organised party which cater to the real problem, forms real policies to address these problem and award power to the deserving worker with justice.BJP should take a lesson from congress and improve.
Leaders egoism has destroyed BJPBy: S L Gera | 24-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward Any party elects office bearers and not bosses. Unfortunately, BJP's leaders have behaved like bosses and not as leaders to shape up the party. As a common man, I tend to believe that the party has shun internal democracy. The infighting within the party has brought its downfall. At the same time I am strongly against any party member washing its dirty linen in public or using the media to communicate to his leaders. The expulsion of leaders like Khurana, Uma Bharti etc smacked of ego of the leaders. It is high time that leaders don't behave like bosses and do introspection and function like a team to boost the morale of its workers. Raje's grouse, on the face of it, seems to be justified. Why should she resign if she enjoys the support of 55-60 MLAs? The party should induct young blood which is need of the hour. It is high time that those who do not feel comfortable in the party or do not agree with the party line should leave the party. Start 'meet the people programme'.
Much Ado About NothingBy: Nitin Mathur | 24-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward It is extremely good time for Vasundhra Raje. She should play the real master stroke now in staying in Rajasthan Assembly. This will give her the opportunity to make plans so that her son can start playing a more meaningful role in the local politics. It is high time to introspect what she and her son have done for the progress of Jhalawar, Kota, Baran the earstwhile Hadoti region which both have used in the last 15 odd years. If it is indeed true that 55-60 MLAs owe allegiance to her, anyway she will have the real say in defining the party stand and policy. Any new Leader of Opposition will have to always look upto her clearance. There is no point in her rushing to Delhi and play second fiddle to Sushma Swaraj , Naidu , Jaitley etc. If she stays in Rajasthan she can ask for development of local region. She knows all bureaucrats as she was formulating state policies till a year back. She can question Congress govt actions and show how Good Opposition in assembly gets things done.
