An FIR has been registered against a retired general manager of Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC), Ramesh Kapoor, who had allegedly tampered his service records to show his age four years less than the actual.

The FIR registered at Sadar police station in Shimla also includes the name of a senior IAS officer, Tarun Shridhar, who was the managing director of HPTDC when Kapoor was working under him.

The police have booked Kapoor for forgery and hence causing loss of lakhs of rupees to the government in terms of salary, emoluments and post retirements benefits. According to sources, the police is investigating the role of Shridhar, for not taking any action in the case.

The principal secretary of Tourism had directed realisation of excess salary of two years, amounting to nearly Rs 8 lakh, paid to Kapoor and in case he failed to do so and did not submit the proof of his date of birth, a case be registered against him within a month.

The action in the case has been taken nearly two and half years after allegations were raised by an employee, which was followed by preliminary inquiries into the incident by three agencies including CID, Vigilance Bureau and finally the police, but no case was registered.

According to preliminary inquiry of the police, Kapoor’s date of birth in his school records was February 2, 1944 which was overwritten by year 1948 in his service records. The officials in-charge of keeping the service book of the employees in HPTDC would be also be questioned.
