The CID has taken over the investigation in the case related to recovery of the remains of seven human skeletons from Garbeta after a villager identified a skeleton to be of his father,a Trinamool supporter. The complaint lodged by the villager,Shymal Acharya,with Anandapur police station last night,included 40 persons as accused including Susanta Ghosh,CPM MLA from Garbeta and a former minister,and district leader Tarun Roy. On the basis of the complaint lodged by Shaymal,the Anandapur police station registered an FIR today and started the investigation. After the FIR,West Midnapore district police decided to handover the case to the CID. Zulfikar Hasan,IG Western Zone,said the case would be investigated by the CID and the district police would assist it. Niraj Narayan Pandey,IG CID,said an order was issued today to take up the Garbeta skeleton case. The CID officials also visited the spot for preliminary inquiry. Meanwhile,skeletal remains have been kept in the Midnapore Medical College for DNA test. While Ghosh could not be contacted for his comments,Dipak Sarkar,CPM district committee secretary,refused to speak on the development. On Saturday,the locals of Bechopara at Garbeta had found seven skeletal remains from near the house of former CPM minister. The skeletons were recovered while digging the soil near a pond. Following that,Shaymal Acharya,a villager of Anandapur identified a skeleton as that of his father Ajay Acharya,a Trinamool Congress supporter who had gone missing since September 22,2002. After the incident,the villagers had claimed that on September 22,2002,CPM goons had raided a house and killed seven Trinamool supporters. Later their bodies were buried beside the pond,they had claimed.
