The police on Thursday lodged an FIR against the principal of Hewett Polytechnic, UC Bajpai, for alleged abetment to suicide of a student.
Sub-Inspector Rajeshwar Yadav who is investigating the case, said Rahul had committed suicide at his rented room — by hanging himself — in Mahanagar area on Wednesday. He was a third year student of diploma in civil engineering. His father, Roopchandra Ram, had complained to the police that his son was mentally harassed by the principal who deducted his marks for 'indiscipline' and also did not provide him fee reimbursed by the government. He alleged that the harassment caused Rahul to commit suicide.
When contacted, Bajpai said Ram was levelling allegations under pressure from other students. He said the students of second and third year batches had boycotted the games and "indulged in hooliganism" inside and outside the campus on December 22 when they were not allowed to sit with juniors during the event. Later, the disciplinary committee had decided to deduct marks — for indiscipline — of all the students, except girl students, in second and third year batches.
