Fire and Ice

The famous villain,Kancha Cheena, being played by Sanjay Dutt in the contemporary remake of Agneepath.

He drags his victim by the hair into his lair and later, menacingly declares that Vijay Dinanath Chauhan, the famous protagonist from the yesteryear classic Agneepath, will have to die. The famous villain,Kancha Cheena, being played by Sanjay Dutt in the contemporary remake of Agneepath, with his resounding laughter, haunts even after the promo of the film is over. He is pitted against Hrithik Roshan, who steps in to play Kancha Cheena’s nemesis,Vijay. The action-packed teaser promo of Agneepath, which was launched in Mumbai on Monday, leaves you wanting for more. The film’s release may be almost six months away, but Karan Johar is making sure he leaves no stone unturned.

The film, which is being remade under Johar’s Dharma Productions — which also produced the original in 1990 — is being directed by debutant filmmaker Karan Malhotra.

The event was attended by the key members of the cast and crew — Johar,Malhotra,Roshan,Dutt,Priyanka Chopra and Rishi Kapoor, who will be seen playing the first negative role of his career. “For the first time in my 40-year-long career I gave a look test to convince myself that I could play a villanous role,” laughs Kapoor. While Kapoor’s character has been especially created for the remake, the famous Krishnan Iyer MA,portrayed by Mithun Chakraborty in the original, has been done away with. Chopra, who steps in to play the lead opposite Roshan, also, unlike Madhavi,is not a nurse. “The essence of revenge is common between the original and the remake, but the story has been recreated,” explained Johar. In fact, this is precisely why, said Roshan,he agreed to do the film.

“I didn’t want to and will not do any remakes. This film is completely different,” he added.
