A huge fire broke out on Thursday in the second floor of Electronic Niketan building in the CGO complex that continued to rage for around four hours. The fire started around 3.45 am.
The Electronic Niketan Bhavan in CGO complex houses several government offices, including the office of Sachin Pilot, MoS for IT.
The fire broke out in the second floor, while the ministry’s office is on the ground floor. They were not damaged in the incident.
Fire officials said that the cause of fire was being investigated but it was most likely due to a short circuit. No one was injured.
The Fire department rushed 23 fire-tenders to the spot. “We were finally able to douse the fire at 7.55 am. It was a big fire,” said a fire department official.
The Fire department said that they were inquiring into the reason behind the fire that most likely was caused by a shot circuit, they said.
“The present investigation shows that the fire had started somewhere from the central core, which is the UPS room of the building, and soon the fire enveloped the entire second floor,” said a senior fire official.
The CGO complex also houses several other government offices.
When the fire broke out, there was no one present in the building and that prevented any casualties. Fire officials said that the building had good fire security equipment and that helped them to control the fire.
“We used their eight jets and other equipments to douse the fire,” the fire official said. The only reason that the fire took so long to be doused was that the building is very secure and all inside gates and doors were barred and it took us time to open each of them,” he added.
