Terrorists then set fire to the sea-facing rooms next to the central dome. Three rooms on the sea-side, including the Seagull penthouse were destroyed. Another four suites opposite the lobby were severely damaged, too. The main dome remained safe and unharmed.
As part of the wooden frames collapsed, they took with them furniture that collapsed from the sixth floor to the ground floor.
Later, on the last day of the siege, a fire on the first and ground floor affected the Japanese restaurant Wasabi and the Crystal ballroom.
Firemen used around 3.2 lakh litres of water to douse the sixth floor fires, installing pumps to draw sea water from across the road.
