The murky politics of hurling sleaze at each other continued on Monday with state Minister for Urban Development Firhad Hakim calling Forward Bloc a party of 'eunuchs' at a media conference at Writers' Buildings.
Hakim said this in response to Bloc general secretary and former MP Debabrata Biswas's remarks at a rally at Hoghly on Sunday that the Trinamool Congress was indulging in "political prostitution" courting different political parties on different occasions.
Hakim made this disparaging remark against Forward Bloc even after Biswas tendered an apology and expressed regret at a news conference in Kolkata on Monday. "The Forward Bloc is a party of eunuchs. They had been subdued by the CPM for a long time but they never protested against their atrocities. What that leader said was against the culture of Bengal. We condemn this," Hakim said.
Biswas, when contacted by The Indian Express, said that he was quoted out of context but he was sorry for the words that he had used. "I was speaking about how the Trinamool Congress helped in the spread of multi-national companies. They have no character; for their own interest they can join hands with anybody. But I used some words which were not decent to describe and I apologise for it,'' Biswas said. However, regarding the TMC minister's remarks about his party, Biswas refused to make any comment.
