Firm seeks EC nod to distribute voter I-card in 7,000 UP villages

Residents of over 7,000 villages in UP may soon be able to obtain Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) from their village. Sahaj, a private organisation that provides government services under National e-Governance Plan (NeGP), is in talks with Chief Electoral Officer of UP to extend the service through its centres and the details of the project are to be finalised by the end of next month.

"Our 7000 Common Service Centres (CSCs) or Sahaj Jan Suvida Kendras across 24 districts of the state have been providing 26 government services such as birth, death and caste certificates, and they are already equipped with a computer, internet connection, web camera and a scanner, among other things. We will just be adding electoral cards to these services after the approval of UP chief electoral officer," said Neeraj Chandra, UP head of Sahaj e-village Limited.

Sahaj will act as a medium between a citizen and the Election Commission. It will collect voter information such as their name, address, photograph, etc through the CSCs.
