  • Contrary to the public perception that Satyam employees are ‘untouchables’, many IT firms are looking at the current imbroglio as an opportunity for hiring top-end Satyam specialists in niche areas. Also, many companies are eyeing existing clients of Satyam who are serviced by these specialists.

After a flurry of CVs from middle-level and junior-level Satyam employees last week, it was the turn of their senior colleagues to jump onto the bandwagon, but there was a difference. Many senior Satyam hands, if headhunters in the city are to be believed, are just a call away from getting absorbed in other firms.

“The interviews of a few of them are over and others stand a good chance of being placed by some leading IT firms. Expertise in their domains and management skills that they have imbibed at Satyam make them favourites to land these jobs. We are getting 8-10 resumes daily from senior staff of Satyam. Most of them have more than 12 years of experience,” said Benoy Mathews of PN Venugopal and Associates.

Leading IT companies, including top rivals of Satyam, are trying to leverage the proficiency of Satyam employees in niche areas like SAP and Oracle while core competence in the financial services segment is being cited as a key factor that adds value to the CVs of the Satyam creamy layer.

“These are project managers who head a team of 30-40 members. Technical know-how, management skills and business development are their main qualities. Other IT firms will surely take them and turn this into an opportunity,” said Mathews.

A senior Satyam employee admitted that he was in touch with another IT firm and that he was waiting for the green signal to move out. “I am waiting. The contract with one of the clients I was serving will be over soon. I heard the company I contacted is looking to rope in the client and believe that I stand a good chance because of the domain of expertise,” he said.

Rahul Ramnath of Way To Go Consultancy confirmed this trend and added that a few Satyam employees have already got offer letters. “In some cases, interviews are over. We have got to know that some of the Satyam contracts with the clients will be over soon and the senior hands catering to these clients are likely to be handpicked by rival IT companies,” he said.
