The worst fears of Tata Motors seem to be coming true as the Hooghly district administration on Tuesday completed the formalities for handing over possession of land to the first batch unwilling farmers in Singur on Wednesday.
Documents of at least 12 farmers were scrutinised and found to be authentic, and they are likely to get back their land on Wednesday. The land of these 12 farmers had already been identified by government surveyors.
Even though Tata Motors appealed before the Calcutta High Court on Monday and moved the Supreme Court on Tuesday seeking a status quo in Singur, the government seemed to be eager to give back land to unwilling farmers as early as possible.
Becharam Manna,TMC MLA and leader of the Singur anti-land acquisition movement, said: The administration scrutinised the land documents of 12 unwilling farmers and identified their plots. The district officials checked their documents submitted yesterday. Their documents are absolutely fine and the administration returned their land deeds. All of these unwilling farmers are residents of Kolepara of Gopalnagar in Singur.
According to the committee,Jamuna Ghorui,Ashok Dhara,Rajkumar Dhara,Jugal Chandra Koley,Sibu Dhara,Sankar Dhara,Nabakumar Koley,Ramkrishna Koley,Pradip Koley,Shyamal Koley,Lakkhan Koley and Kamlabala Koley were called to the District Magistrates office for handing over documents.
Hooghly DM Sripriya Rangarajan denied media reports that distribution of plots had already begun.
The administration is mainly focusing on the government list presented before the Assembly when the Singur Bill was placed.
The unwilling farmers have been divided into three categories A,B and C.
The farmers with clean land deeds are in the A category while farmers with minimum and maximum disputes on their plots have been categorized as B and C,respectively.
Meanwhile,a team of 50 officials are carrying out a survey of the Tata Motors project area.
