BSF DIG K S Padhi was arrested today by the CBI after he was identified by one of the victims of the Srinagar sex abuse scandal during an identification parade.
Padhi was produced in the court of the Srinagar Chief Judicial Magistrate which remanded him in CBI custody for four days.
“Padhi surrendered early this morning at the CBI camp office. He was put through an identification parade where he was identified by the victim,” Assistant Solicitor General and CBI counsel Shabir A Naik told The Indian Express. He said there was “no news” of former J&K Additional Advocate General Anil Sethi who was also named by the victim.
Meanwhile, J&K Governor Lt Gen (rtd) S K Sinha has sought “prompt and salutary action against the guilty”.
“I am most concerned,” he told The Indian Express. “I would like prompt, salutary action against the guilty. And I also want to ensure public vigilance and government measures so that this type of scam does not recur. But while I say this, let me add that it can happen in any state or anywhere in the world. In Kerala, a minister had to go after he was found involved in a similar situation. Even Prime Minister Tony Blair dropped two of his ministers.”
“So far as the investigation is concerned, I think it is going in the right direction. The case is in the High Court and the division bench is monitoring it. The CBI, our premier agency, is investigating it. I am sure the guilty will be punished.” He said both he and Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad “want that the case be dealt with in a transparent manner.”
