Department of Anesthesiology at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital organised a two-day “First DMCH-Airway Course 2009 (Airway CME and Workshop) in collaboration with the Department of Anaesthesiology, Maulana Azad Medical College and Hospital, New Delhi , which is accredited as ‘MAMC Centre of Excellence for Airway Management’, on July 11 and 12.
A batch of 50 delegates from all over Punjab, Rajasthan and Haryana attended the interactive ‘Airway CME and hands- on workshop’ on the use of various types of old and newer supraglottic devices, cricothyrotomy, rigid fibrescopes and flexible fiberscopes.
Principal of DMCH, Dr Daljit Singh inaugurated the first Airway Course 2009 and emphasised on acquiring airway management skills, which are life saving in many difficult circumstances.
Even during Basic Life Support / Advanced Cardiac Life support care, managing airway & breathing are of prime importance. The only thing that will be of use to combat these situations successfully is advance preparedness both in terms of equipment and skills and informed decision making,said Dr Daljit Singh.
Medical Suptd and Member, Punjab Medical Council-Dr Balbir Singh Shah addressed the gathering on the giant strides taken by the Dept of Anaesthesiology and on the importance of these academic activities for all practicing anaesthesiologists.
Organising Chairman-Dr Sunil Katyal (Professor and Head of Anaesthesiology at DMCH) delivered the welcome address wherein he informed that the department had trained nearly 200 doctors, an equal number of nursing staff and other lay public in basic life support courses. Now going a step further this first airway course aims to train the anaesthesiologists in advanced airway management devices and protocols.
