In 2005,New York-based filmmaker Nagendra Karri heard the tale about a newspaper columnist who had gone missing. As he delved deeper into the rumours and theories surrounding the incident,Karri began to form a film script in his mind. The findings of his investigation have taken the form of his first film called Where Are You Sophia?,a 92-minute-long venture, which will be released in India and the US in August.

On Wednesday, the Telugu filmmaker was in Delhi on a promotional tour. “It should appeal to people who appreciate experimental cinema. The real life incident forms the basic plot that I have worked on. The columnist was never found,” says the filmmaker, who completed his masters in computer science from Oregon State University and worked in the IT sector before setting up his production house Eternal Mind Production in New York in 2007. “I had a background in theatre and the production house was established to make films that are different. There are many stories that need to be told,” he adds.
