Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, son of late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, on Wednesday arrived in the Capital for the first time after the death of his father, and sought an appointment with Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
“I have requested her for an appointment. If she is kind enough to give this (appointment) then I will definitely meet her,” Jaganmohan told reporters on Wednesday. His supporters have been campaigning to make him Chief Minister after YSR’s death.
Meanwhile, Jaganmohan on Wednesday met senior Congress leader and Law Minister Veerappa Moily. Though he refused to speak to the media after the meeting, he is believed to have discussed the current political situation in Andhra Pradesh.
Jaganmohan’s arrival on the eve of announcement of Assembly poll results of Maharashtra, Haryana and Arunachal Pradesh, assumes significance in view of speculations that the Congress leadership might take a decision regarding Jaganmohan’s claims.
The party, under pressure from Jaganmohan’s supporters, has not yet yielded to their demands to make him Chief Minister and has been trying to come up with a formula to accommodate him in some way, given YSR’s contribution to the party.
Jaganmohan, who is slated to attend the meeting of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance, is also likely to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his stay in the Capital.
