Five magical minutes

The 1973 number,Tum jo mil gaye ho,is singer haans discovery song

One melody that has stayed on with me for years is the song Tum jo mil gaye ho from the movie Hanste Zakham(1973). It was not a big success but I just love the euphoric brew it hasswirling violins with stiff drumming. Rendered by Mohammad Rafi saab,it has the trademark of a Madan Mohan compositionan element of mystery. Kaifi Azmis lyrics are plain yet captivating which, when combined with the symphonic orchestration, produce some five minutes of magic. Shot on Navin Nischol and Priya Rajvansh, the visuals have striking colours and an old world charm. It was no regular song,it was,I would say,my discovery song.

I was 10 years old when I first heard it. My mother had sent me to the market to buy some stuff and the song was playing on the radio. I just got stuck there. Not that I understood the intensity of the romanticism it had,but I just liked it a lot and kept humming it through that evening.

I generally listen to it when I am alone now. It is that one old melody that can help you recall some lost emotions when you are with your self. This song makes for a wonderful afternoon treat. The sounds of rain, thunder and tidal waves crashing on the shoreline simply heighten the sensuous blend of intense love and nostalgia it has. And the result of this concoction? An otherworldly beauty.
