All five,Ashraf, his wife Mymoona, their two children and Naushad, the bridegroom, died in the crash on Saturday morning. Muffled cries of relatives fill the the newly built house in Kotepura, all decked for the marriage.

“Since the mother has been suffering from high blood pressure and heart ailments, she was administered sedatives. We were afraid that she could not take a tragedy of this magnitude,” says Habbamma,a relative.

The youngest son Irshad, also employed in Dubai, believes he got his life extended as he was denied long leave for the marriage of his brother.

“I was granted leave only from June 5. Otherwise,

I too have boarded the same flight,” says Irshad, who reached home on Sunday morning.

“While saying goodbye at the Dubai airport at 11 pm on Friday,Naushad had persistently asked me if I would not be coming for his marriage as my leave had not been granted. He wanted me to be here earlier to prepare for the marriage,” says Irshad.

Ashraf, the eldest, always used to take his family on all his trips. He never missed a family function. He found a job in Dubai seven years ago and took his two brothers, one by one.

“The Bajpe airport was considered my family’s mascot. My sons used to board and alight Gulf flights from there. I never knew about the traps in the air or the runway,” says Ayishumma.
