  • Why has such a major uproar followed the preferred choice of residence by External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna and his junior Shashi Tharoor. One can question whether it is the government’s failure in providing for adequate accommodation before they assumed office. However, the government does have a point as these men are responsible to their party and its views and ideologies. They should thus stay in line with their stated ideology.

    How hopeless?

This refers to ‘On 26/11 trail...’. The home minister has rightly argued that dialogue with Pakistan will not resume until the culprits are prosecuted. The release of Hafeez Saeed is distressing; ample evidence exists against him, yet he walks free. However, an optimistic outlook should be aimed for as dealing with Pakistan has always been problematic; perhaps US involvement will yield better results.

    Relief, at last

The new grading system is a welcome change in our education set-up. Rather than transferring all the stress to the students, teachers should also be held accountable as grades would reflect their ability to teach. Kapil Sibal would have done well to first change the syllabi of the BEd courses to include these subjects, and thereby put the existing teaching profession through specialised training capsules.

    Inside job?

This refers to ‘Insider suspect...’. It’s a matter of grave concern that larceny has taken place from within the Rashtrapati Bhavan. How come computers, etc are carted away surreptitiously from under the very nose of security personnel at the gates? It’s not what the stolen items were but the glaring lapse of security at Rashtrapati Bhavan that’s worrying. If need be an overhauling of the security arrangement should be made.

    ... contd.
