What’s it about? When Chicks on Flicks was announced, one must admit, it seemed like a good idea. We have had various men on TV, from the legendary Tom Brooks of BBC’s Talking Movies, to our own home-grown movie critic Rajeev Masand telling us what movie to watch and what to avoid. Chicks on Flicks, for a change, has two women talking about movies and Hollywood movies, at that. This is not just a film review show; there are also interview segments where you see, for the first time, Indian TV show hosts interacting with the A-list of Hollywood.
Who’s in it? The show is hosted by actor Ira Dubey and model Neha Sareen. About their qualifications to host a show of this type, we’ll say very little. But the best that can be said about them is that they do seem to be trying really hard to keep it light and engaging. What does not help is the almost-zero chemistry between the two and the fact that they seem to be taking their label as ‘Hollywood Film Critic’ a bit too seriously. A few tongue-in-cheek jokes and some laughter on the sets wouldn’t hurt, girls.
What’s hot? The best thing about the show is that it lasts only half-hour. The pilot episode about the latest Bond movie, Quantum of Solace, was interesting enough, mainly because the girls managed to get interviews with Daniel Craig and Olga Kurylenko, and director Marc Forster. But will they be able to sustain the same level of interest for a movie that’s not as popular as the Bond franchise?
