Flintoff had an anxious start to the Test series after he suffered a left-side strain in the opening week of the tour. The visitors summoned fast-medium bowler Amjad Khan and all-rounder Ravi Bopara from the England Lions’ tour of New Zealand as cover for Flintoff.

Bopara made the 11 for the fourth Test, but Khan failed to make the final cut, despite taking five wickets in England’s two-day,warm-up match against the Barbados Cricket Association President’s XI over the past weekend.
