The 1st Mens & Womens National Floorball Federation Cup 2009 will be organised at City Montessori School,Gomti Nagar,Lucknow on September 17.
Briefing mediapersons president Floorball Federation of India (FFI) Seraj Ansari informed that teams from six states Punjab,Delhi,Jharkhand,Uttarakhand,Chhattisgarh besides hosts Uttar Pradesh will be seen in action during the competition. The event will be inaugurated at 8.00 am on Thursday while the closing function will be held at about 9.00 pm the same day. A three-day International Floorball Development Seminar-2009 will also be organised in the state capital from September 18. On September 20,an India vs World Floorball show match will be take place at CMS.
After cricket,floorball has introduced the cheer girls concept and now FFI has decided to introduce it in all national and international floorball matches played from September 17 to 20. The concept ensures that the spectators do not get bored during matches, he further added.
However,when asked about whether it was in the interest of sports to mix glamour with the game,Ansari seemed to be at a loss of words and said,Now what can I say about this?
Meanwhile,state working president of the UP Floorball Association (UPFA) Shailesh Kumar Singh said UP has been able to get a chance to host three major floorball events due to the continuous efforts by the FFI. He said that India vs World Floorball show match which will be organised 4.30 pm on September 20 will be a treat to watch. The match is likely to be a thriller as one side will feature the floorball talent from India while the other side will have some good players from different countries .
The winners of the mens and the womens section will be given a prize money of Rs 11,000 each by the ISE Cards India Limited. The runners-up will become richer by Rs 5,100 in each section.
Money sanctioned
As per a press release from secretary UP Swimming Association (UPSA) Ravin Kapoor,president of UP Olympic Association (UPOA) Dr Akhilesh Das has sanctioned an amount of Rs 2.5 lakhs from MP local area development fund for the construction of shade over spectator’s gallery at KD Singh Babu Stadium Swimming pool,Lucknow.
Lucknow boxers shine
LUCKNOW girls grabbed six golds,four silver and three bronze to grab the runners-up trophy in the 13th UP State Girls Boxing Championship organised at Kanpur. As per Virendra Kumar,secretary Lucknow Boxing Association,the coach of the Lucknow team was Abhishek Kumar.
The medal winners include: Gold: Komal Gupta,Yamini Singh,Nandani Singh,Monika Verma,Rupani Singh,Shubhangi Singh; Silver: Naila Nazar,Shrishti Singh,Manisha,Sangeeta Devi; Bronze: Deepa Pawar,Aishwarya,Dimpy.
