Flop show: Only eight turn up with complaints at PMPML commuters’ day

The third Pravasi Din, (commuters' day) an initiative of the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) to address issues raise by commuters and also get their feedback received a dismal response with only eight commuters turning up with complaints on Saturday at PMPML depots.

The last two editions of the Pravasi Din had also seen a feeble turnout of 36 and 51, and civic activists attributed the poor show to lack of publicity by the transport administration.

On an average, 11 lakh commuters travel daily by PMPML buses.

The Pravasi Din was launched by PMPML to improve services by taking commuter feedback and is being held on the first Saturday of every month. It is on the lines of the Lokshahi Din held by various government departments for hearing citizens' complaints.

On Pravasi Din, commuters can approach any of the 10 PMPML depots in the city and register grievances either verbally or in writing. The first Pravasi Din on September 4 had 36 complaints and the second in October had 51.

Of the eight who turned up on Saturday, six submitted written complaints and two registered theirs verbally. Three complaints were registered at Swargate Depot, one at Katraj and one at Kothrud.

PMP Pravasi Manch president Jugal Rathi who filed two written complaints blamed the transport body for the poor response saying it was not taking serious efforts to increase awareness about the event.

"Many people are not even aware of such a day dedicated for registering complaints about the transport body. PMPML officials haven't taken any efforts to publicise the events. Ideally they should promote the day by way of newspaper advertisements, hoardings and banners at bus depots and posters at prominent bus stops. Pravasi Din is a good initiative but it is on the verge of failure because of the apathy of PMPML authorities," said Rathi.
