CIvil Supply department has recovered 200 kilograms of flour from various outlets
The Civil Supply Department in Bhavnagar has busted a racket under which flour meant for anganwadi was allegedly siphoned off for sale in open market. After conducting raids, the officials have seized 200 kilogram of flour from various outlets in the market.
A showcause notice has been served to anganwadi in-charge even as the department is in process of registering a case.
Sources said the officials have seized 1 kilogram each of wheat and rice from an auto-rickshaw outside an unauthorised outlet, Ramdev Traders, in Sindhunagar area. A raid was conducted in the outlet and it was sealed.
“On the basis of auto-rickshaw driver’s statement, the department has served a showcause notice to Rajbha Gohil, anganwadi in-charge. We have asked Gohil to show how the quota meant for anganwadi reached the open market,” said Bhavnagar Civil Supply Officer G Gohil.
He added the department was tipped off about the scam, following which raids were conducted at various outlets and flour was seized.
He did not rule out possibility of a huge racket operating to divert foodgrains meant for children to open market.
“The investigation has just begun. Things might start becoming clearer once we interrogate owner of Ramdev Traders, who is at large,” said Gohil. He added that a formal complaint will be lodged after the department is through with its investigation.
