Folklores in New Forms

Now, the adventurous stories told by the wise bear Karadi will gain a new avatar in the form of two new picture books. Karadi Tales' new titles boast of simple stories, but are narrated in a style that captivates children. While the first book, The Bookworm (in the picture), deals with the universal social issue of bullying, where victims often suffer from loneliness, anxiety, and low self-esteem; the second, The Story and the Song, is based on a south Indian folktale about the oral tradition of sharing stories and music. Talking about the new launches, publishing director, Shobha Viswanath, says, "We wanted to put together a series of picture books that introduce children to high-quality storytelling and artwork. We have contacted writers and illustrators from all over the world and brought them together to ensure that children in India are exposed to international standards of literature and art." While The Bookworm has been authored by Lavanya RN, a postgraduate from Harvard Business School, and illustrated by Shilo Shiv Suleman, an illustrator, animator and visual artist; The Story and the Song has been authored by Manasi Subramaniam, editor of Karadi Tales, and illustrated by Ayswarya Sankaranarayanan. Parents can pick up these picture books for their children at any leading bookstore for Rs 95.
