Follow SC’s directions in assessing damaged properties: HC to Haryana

Taking cognizance of property destruction that took place during Jat agitations in Haryana in 2010 and 2012, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the state to abide by the Supreme Court's directions issued in destruction of public and private property cases and provide teeth to investigations as per recommendations made by K T Thomas and F S Nariman committees.

The committees had also made recommendations with regard to assessment of loss and damage caused to public and private properties.

The directions came from Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri and Justice Rakesh Kumar Jain while disposing of a petition filed by Anti-Corruption Federation of India against Jat agitations that took place in Haryana.

The issue of traffic blockades and violence during the Jat stir had come under the judicial scanner soon after the Session Judge Raminder Jain's car was set afire by the agitators.

The bench also directed the state's Home department to take out publications felicitating people to put up their claims before the claim commissioner, former District and Session Judge R C Bansal.
