Food inflation due to supply shortage: FM

The rise in food prices in India is mainly due to a supply shortfall,Mukherjee said on Friday.

The rise in food prices in India is mainly due to a supply shortfall,the finance minister said on Friday.

“It is mainly because of a shortage of supply,” Pranab Mukherjee told parliament.

The worst monsoons in almost four decades,followed by floods in some areas,have ruined crops and pushed up food prices,with the index rising to an annual 19.05 per cent by end November.
