Ashima Chibber, the director of Yash Raj Films' 'Mere Dad Ki Maruti', says she found her career in films by a stroke of serendipity.
Being the daughter of professor parents, the academic field was viewed as a natural choice for the Hyderabad girl until she took up a job in a cinema hall.
'I completed my MA and went to the UK to pursue a course there. I was a good student. During the same time, I took up a job in a cinema hall. It was then when my interest in films grew. I got influenced towards film world,' Ashima told.
Ashima says though she has no Bollywood connections, cruising in films is an eventful experience for her as she worked as an assistant director in films like 'Pyaar Ke Side Effects', 'Chak De India', 'Rockstar' and others.
'After assisting Imtiaz Ali in 'Rockstar', I was somewhere sure that I wanted to direct. I was talking toindustry people and meeting them for work,' Ashima said.
Ashima's watershed moment came when Yash Raj Films approached her to direct 'Mere Dad Ki Maruti'.
"I got an offer from YRF to direct this film 'Mere Dad Ki Maruti'. I quite liked the script and accepted the offer. I started working on the project, wrote the screenplay," she added.
'Mere Dad Ki Maruti' is a comedy film set up against the backdrop of a loud Punjabi wedding in Chandigarh and is the story of a boy who sneaks out with his father's fancy new car to impress a girl.
The film stars newcomers -Saqib Salem of 'Mujse Fraandship Karoge' and Rhea Chakraborty in the lead, besides popular TV actor Ram Kapoor, who is playing father to Saqib.
The film will release on March 15.
