The police on Monday arrested two persons,including a patwari,for showing an aged woman and a few others as dead to change the ownership rights of a 77 yards house in the heart of the city in 2004.

The police on Monday arrested two persons,including a patwari,for showing an aged woman and a few others as dead to change the ownership rights of a 77 yards house in the heart of the city in 2004.

The patwari,Rajinder Kumar,and his accomplice Lalit Kumar have been sent to judicial remand for six days by Chief Judicial Magistrate Vinod Goel said the police.

The patwari,who is considered close to many senior officers of the district administration,including Deputy Commissioner Kahan Singh Pannu,transferred the land and mutation of the house in 2004 by showing 70-year-old Santosh Kumari as dead. She is,however,alive and came to know about the fraud recently.

According to the complainant,she is one of the legal heir of the house,which is worth lakhs,and was surprised to find that the revenue records showed her as dead in order to transfer the house to some of her relatives.

After the registration of the land deed and mutation,some banks had given loans on the house to the accused. The police have booked Kumari’s relatives,a numbardar who was a witness,and a few bank and revenue staff members under Sections 420,467,468,471 and 120-B.

“We had received the complaint and the matter was serious so. Two persons had been arrested and others are absconding,” said a senior police officer.
