The Central Excise and Service Tax cell,Pune,has filed a complaint of forgery against Ramdas Popat Kusalkar,proprietor of Shreepad Enterprises in Chakan and his tax consultant Deepak Joshi,for allegedly evading service tax to the extent of Rs 50 lakh by manipulating the duty paying documents.
A Vasudev,commissioner of central excise and sales tax,Pune,stated in a press release that Shreeprad Enterprises had cheated the government by producing fabricated,forged and altered challans.
During the course of verification of the GAR-7,the service tax challan,it was found that Shreepad Enterprises,registered for the payment of service tax under the category of Mapower recruitment agency,had shown payment of Rs 50,76,818 as against the actual payment of Rs 7,317 only,under fictitious names of firms and false registration numbers, it was stated.
According to the service tax cell,Joshi has admitted that he had prepared five fake challans showing tax payments of Rs 10,13,582 by using a forged stamp of Bank of Maharashtra.
