Former Congress MLA from Pathardi,Rajiv Rajale, joined the NCP on Saturday. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar welcomed him into the party.

Rajale is a nephew of Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat (Congress) and his defection would deliver a jolt to the Congress in Ahmednagar district, where the Congress and the NCP are preparing to fight each other in the ensuing local polls.

Rajale, who is an architect, was elected from Pathardi constituency to the Assembly in the 2004 polls. After the delimitation exercise, his constituency got fragmented and was allotted to the NCP,prompting him to rebel unsuccessfully as an independent candidate in the 2009 Assembly polls.

As a Congress MLA,he had created a stir by writing a letter to the high command against the then chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.
