Fortis Hospital and Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) on Friday joined hands to launch the ‘Re-Green Mohali’ initiative to mark the World Environment Day on Friday.
To begin the initiative, GMADA Chief Administrator V P Singh, Fortis Hospital Executive Director Dr T S Mahant and Director Dr Ashish Banerji planted saplings while pledging to undertake various initiatives to help save the environment.
Mahant said, “While we safeguard the health of people by providing the best of healthcare, it is equally important for all of us to take care of the health of the environment. With the fast pace of development happening in and around Mohali, it is imperative that efforts are made to plant large number of trees.”
Singh said, “It is encouraging that the corporate world is so conscious of the environment and hope this trend grows in the years to come.”
Under the first phase of the initiative, GMADA will provide plants, which Fortis Hospital, with the help of the residents’ welfare associations and senior citizens’ associations, will plant in different parts of the city. These plants will be looked after and maintained by the gardeners of Fortis Hospital, which will also gift a plant to all its patients from Mohali to encourage them to plant trees in their surroundings.
